Here is another upcycling project that I had a lot of fun on. I found this Christian Dior hatbox at our favorite vintage store in Harrisonburg, Heartworn Vintage, a few years ago. It was a little rough around the edges, so I decided to use paint to cover them up. I went with a 70’s floral design and am really pleased with the outcome!
Jaymie’s “Sad Eyes” Painting
I found this image on Pinterest and kept coming back to it. I don’t know what it is about it, but I find it incredibly captivating. I can’t find the original artist, but I wanted to try my own hand at it. This is completely copied, so no credit to me for creation. I love it though!
Upcycled Household
Not only did Julia and I upcycle paintings, but we started upcycling household décor! There is nothing more satisfying than taking something old, and making it beautiful in a new and unique way.
This mirror was originally brown and beige tiles.
Stanley’s Christmas Song
This piece isn’t necessarily a Christmas song, but it is a present to my parents. In this piece I incorporate piano and guitar, instruments that I was introduced to by my parents and taught from a young age. I’m able to make songs like these because of the love of music instilled in me from both my mom and dad. Enjoy!

Julia’s Hair Transformation
I have, for no particular reason, always wanted to shave my head. When I realized that I was going to be in quarantine for a significant amount of the foreseeable future, I decided if I don’t shave my head now, I never will. Once I made the decision to shave my head, I allowed myself to try all of the hair styles I’ve always wanted to try (bangs and bleaching/dying my hair). The bowl cut was for fun because why not.
Lego Tensegrity Structure:
During quarantine, there were a few months where tensegrity structures got really popular on the internet, so I decided to try it out with Legos. Tensegrity is defined as: the characteristic property of a stable three-dimensional structure consisting of members under tension that are contiguous and members under compression that are not. Basically, its seems like a gravity defying structure made up of supports that support each other in order to support the structure. I’m not good at explaining it.
Ghibli Paintings
As Julia and I have rediscovered our love for painting, we have found that there’s nothing we love painting more than scenes from our favorite Studio Ghibli films. We grew up watching those movies and love them with our whole hearts. Here are the paintings that we have done thus far!
I will show a break down of the painting process for some of these in separate posts.
Jewels and Jam
This summer, Julia and I had made the best of quarantine by going to our favorite store, “Gift and Thrift” about 3 times a week. We did a whole lot of clothes shopping, but we also got into upcycling art. We created an Instagram with the handle @jewelsandjam where we started to put together photos of all our creations. Here are some of our favorite outfits and paintings that we have displayed on our feed so far!
